Meteor Updates Social Media Tracker

Meteor Solutions has upgraded its flagship software product, Meteor Tracker, adding sophisticated analytics and reporting capabilities to enable marketers to measure the impact of what it calls 'earned media' - unpaid content including word-of-mouth and social media posts.

The firm says the new version allows clients to measure the impact of earned media on branding, engagement, and sales with the same precision as paid media programs like search and display ads; and to quantify impact on the bottom line. New features include Media Tagging, for tracking visits and link-sharing directly resulting from paid advertising programs; Conversion Tracking, measuring the impact of sharing of earned media content on specific end-user actions, including orders, signups, and downloads; and Link Value Tracking, which promises to give advertisers and publishers the ability to quantify the actual dollar value of each link that is driving traffic to their sites, including the value of secondary or 'downstream' sharing.

Simultaneously, the company is launching 'earned media promotion engine' Meteor Ignite, which will help marketers to encourage sharing of their content by making it 'rewarding and fun'.

According to Meteor CEO Ben Straley, 'people sharing links about a brand's promotions and campaigns is driving upwards of 20% of overall traffic to brand websites, and these 'sharers' convert at a rate up to 4x more often than people arriving via a paid media ad.'

COO Taddy Hall comments: 'Until Meteor Tracker, marketers had no way to accurately measure the real impact that word of mouth sharing of earned media content was having on their overall marketing ROI. The newest features of Meteor Tracker make measuring and optimizing earned media programs easier than ever before.'
