TagMan Scoops $1.3m to Expand Operations

February 16 2010

TagMan - which was launched by web analytics pioneer Paul Cook to counter the problems caused by web site tracking tags - has raised $1.3m in a first round of funding, which it will use to scale the business and grow its client support and product development teams.

Paul Cook and Jon BaronFounded in 2004, with offices in New York and London, TagMan provides a solution that enables agencies and advertisers to manage online marketing tags/pixels - and the data they provide.

Tags/pixels are code fragments used by the digital ad industry to track the performance of online campaigns. A single TagMan tag is installed on any advertiser's page that needs tracking and all other tags/pixels that need to sit on that page are managed through the TagMan interface.

The system enables marketers to track the journey a customer takes to a web site, which the firm says enables clients to plan future activity more effectively and eliminate duplicate commission payments where more than one channel claims the same sale.

This first round of financing has been led by Cambridge Angels and the London Business School E100. Cambridge Angels investors include John Taysom, whose earlier Internet investments include Advertising.com, Yahoo!, Forbes.com and infoseek. As part of the deal, Cambridge Angel investors Robert Brady and John Yeomans join TagMan's Board of Directors.

'We were impressed with how the combination of tag management and a single view of the entire customer journey is already driving amazing returns for clients,' explained Taysom. 'This new investment will enable this remarkable business to expand its operations to meet client demand and continue to drive the product and client support in the US and Europe.'

The new funding also includes investments from CEO and founder Cook and co-founder and General Manager Jonathan Baron. The company had previously raised a total of $800,000 angel funds from friends and employees.
