Barr to Step Down as MRS Director General

December 6 2010

In the UK, David Barr has announced his intention to step down as Director General of the Market Research Society (MRS) from next September. Recruitment for his successor will begin shortly.

David BarrBarr joined the MRS in 1997, since when he has overseen many changes. His achievements include championing members' interests through investment, extending MRS' international reach, and putting the Society on a more secure financial footing.

During his tenure, he also oversaw the integration of the former trade association - the British Market Research Association (BMRA) - within MRS, and the creation of a corporate scheme through the introduction of the Company Partner Service.

After 14 years in the role, Barr says he believes that the market research and insight sector faces many new challenges and opportunities, and now is the ideal time for the organisation to have fresh leadership.

'David has made a fantastic contribution to The Market Research Society during his tenure,' states MRS Chairman Vanella Jackson, who is also the Global CEO of Hall & Partners. 'His many achievements include creating a more professional organisation, giving the MRS team a strong focus and direction, as well as expertly dealing with the many different demands of the role.'
