Rentrak Snaps Up Media Salvation

January 4 2011

US-based multi-screen measurement specialist Rentrak has acquired Media Salvation, a provider of data aggregation, processing and analytics tools to studios and independent film companies. Terms were not disclosed.

David CorteseMedia Salvation's suite of SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions have been developed for the rental, pay-per-view, on-demand and digital distribution industries. The firm's proprietary technology collects, consolidates and reports on transactional activity.

Rentrak says the buy will enable it to integrate all its existing products with TV network and studio financial and distribution systems such as JD Edwards, SAP and other financial packages.

As part of the deal, Media Salvation's founder David Cortese joins Rentrak as Senior Vice President of Digital Studio Services. Prior to launching the company in 2009, Cortese spent eight years at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, most recently as the division's worldwide CIO.

Marty Graham, Rentrak's President of Home Entertainment, says that as consumers shift their entertainment consumption to electronic formats the acquisition will help the firm provide studio and network clients with sales and financial reporting and intelligence they need.
