VoterTide to Measure Candidate Buzz

November 16 2011

In the US, newly-launched and politically neutral firm VoterTide is to roll out an app which measures how online buzz is impacting real-world politics.

The ups and downs of political support...The Omaha, Nebraska-based firm has been set up by technology entrepreneurs Jimmy Winter, Shannon Schlappi and Gordon Whitten to track social media mentions and press coverage about political candidates, and combine this information into a single interface.

VoterTide gathers data every time someone tweets, shares a link, or likes a candidate's profile, while also gathering mentions from other forms of social media. From this combined data, the tool generates charts and graphs which monitor a candidate's popularity and measure overall change.

Algorithms then assign a 'VoterTide Score' for each candidate - whether running in presidential or state elections.

The tool can be used by consultants, fundraisers, lobbyists or journalists, to find out what people are saying about each candidate on Facebook and Twitter, and to uncover what content voters are sharing with their friends via news articles, blogs and videos.
