Evidon Unveils Web Privacy Compliance Aid

February 2 2012

In the UK, online privacy and compliance specialist Evidon has launched a tool to help publishers keep tabs on the cookies and tracking tools used on their web sites, so as to comply with the disclosure requirements of the ePrivacy Directive.

Scott MeyerThe ePrivacy Directive requires that web site owners must disclose all forms of tracking, including all online data collection, to consumers. This includes scripts, tags, pixels, cookies, device fingerprinting and any other method for collecting data from a web browser.

Evidon (formerly known as The Better Advertising Project) develops technology to help clients comply with this privacy law, and offer consumers transparency into and control over how their information is used online.

Through its 300,000-member Ghostery panel and its 800+ company privacy database, the newly launched 'Evidon Encompass' tool provides details of how each tracker affects a site and how intrusive it is to consumers.

The solution also enables web site owners to benchmark their site performance against their peer group, relative to the amount of and types of tracking on their sites.

Evidon founder and CEO Scott Meyer explains: 'By combining our Ghostery panel with our company library, Encompass sees the essential tracker data that cookie scanning and other solutions miss. Companies need to see this in order to comply with the ePrivacy Directive and to improve their web site performance and security.'
