May 29 2012

In the US, on-demand music streaming and discovery service Grooveshark has launched Beluga, a free music information tool. Beluga delivers insight by combining in-house market research with Grooveshark's user database.

Grooveshark's Josh and SamThe company claims '20 million unique monthly users' and Beluga uses anonymous data from these users and calculates correlations between artist affinity and their listeners' demographics, location, and survey responses. Data collected and analysed in this way allows artists and their representatives to plan tour routes, line-ups, merchandising and licensing opportunities and packaging. The service is free and requires no registration.

Josh Greenberg, Grooveshark co-founder and CTO, said: 'Any artist with music on Grooveshark can leverage Beluga's revolutionary data to learn about their fans, route their tours, sell merchandise, work on building a following, and take their careers to the next level. Beluga opens doors for advertisers and brands to partner with artists who connect with their target audience, presenting endless opportunities.'

Grooveshark positions itself as 'the world's largest on-demand music streaming and discovery service.' Founded in 2006 by Sam Tarantino and Josh Greenberg the company is based in Gainesville, Florida and can be found online at: www.grooveshark.com .
