Royal Named Chief Exec at Abt SRBI

April 2 2013

US-based healthcare and government researcher Abt Associates has promoted Scott Royal to the new position of President and CEO of its survey research and data collection arm, Abt SRBI.

Scott Royal, Mark Schulman and Jay KnottRoyal (pictured) joined the firm in 2005 to lead its public health and epidemiology practice, from the Research Triangle Institute in Washington DC, where he managed the social and behavioral epidermiology program. Since 2008, he has served as VP for US Health, overseeing numerous projects with large survey and data collection components, and has collaborated with Abt SRBI on projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

He replaces CEO Mark Schulman, who will continue to have a key role in the company, including day-to-day oversight of project execution and client relationships. Before joining Abt in 2010, Schulman served as Mission Director for USAID in Jordan, in charge of a program with annual funding levels exceeding $500m. He earlier worked as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice and at private firm Fox, Weinberg and Bennett.

Jay Knott, EVP for Global Business, comments: 'Mark is a giant in the field of survey research, and he will now be able to devote his full attention to assuring the continued high quality of Abt SRBI's work and recruiting top talent. We are confident Scott and Mark together will take Abt SRBI to the next level, both in enabling greater collaboration with Abt Associates and winning larger projects.'
