NGDATA Buys Big Data Firm ENQIO

April 2 2013

In Belgium, NGDATA, which provides solutions for customer intelligence management, has acquired data management and business analytics specialist ENQIO for an undisclosed sum.

Luc BurgelmanNGDATA's flagship customer intelligence solution Lily combines machine learning with big data from point-of-sale systems. Through the acquisition, the firm will offer complementary business knowledge and competence alongside this, to provide businesses with what it describes as a '360 degree view' of their customers.

It will also provide clients with access to a team of experienced data scientists, which it claims is a core competency lacking in most big data technology vendors.

Mechelen, Belgium-based ENQIO - founded in 2009 by Alain Vandenborne and Jurgen Ingels - has developed an information and insights platform for large data volume processing, as well as algorithms to find the influential promoters in a company's customer base. The firm has a twenty-strong team which includes business intelligence experts and marketers, data-mining and processing specialists, mathematicians, statisticians, sociologists and trendspotters.

Luc Burgelman (pictured), CEO and co-founder of NGDATA, says the acquisition will bring together the power of Lily and the extensive skill set of the firm's data scientists using machine learning. He comments: 'One of the biggest reasons most enterprises struggle with big data initiatives is because most technology vendors don't have qualified staff who understand how to show ROI resulting from effectively applying the technology.'

Last October, NGDATA raised $2.5m in investment funding, with plans to establish offices near New York and San Francisco for servicing its US-based clients.
