Pyramid Doubles Africa / Middle East Telecoms Coverage

US-based telecoms industry specialist Pyramid Research has 'doubled' its coverage of telecoms markets in Africa and the Middle East, expanding the number of countries and operators tracked to offer additional insight into market trends across the region.

Leslie ArathoonResearch Director Leslie Arathoon (pictured) says the firm is anticipating the demands of its growing client base, offering market sizing and demand forecasts for 33 countries in Africa, and products for eleven in the Middle East. She adds: 'This coverage now encompasses over 95% of the AME region's GDP and tracks KPIs for more than 200 service providers operating in the region.'

Pyramid is the telecoms research arm of the Light Reading Communications Network, and offers research for emerging markets, technologies and business models, powered by market forecasts for more than 100 countries.

According to the company, the Africa and Middle East region is expected to surpass one billion mobile subscribers in 2013, the second region to do so after Asia-Pacific. In addition, the firm says that with improved networks and greater affordability of smartphones, mobile Internet will more than double in the next five years in Africa and the Middle East, and grow to comprise more than 20% of total mobile services revenue.
