Senior Hires for Physician Network Doximity

US physician network Doximity has added two new Vice Presidents: Emily Peters in the newly created role of VP Marketing Communications, and Peter Alperin, MD, as VP, Connectivity Solutions.

Launched only in 2011 but already billing itself as 'the largest secure medical network in the country', Doximity boasts more than 40 percent of US physicians as members, offering them productivity tools such as HIPAA-compliant messaging, free CME, career opportunities and custom-curated medical news.

In April the firm, which is headquartered in Silicon Valley and is led by the founders of Epocrates, closed a $54m Series C investment round, bringing the company's total funding to $81m.

Peters, who joined Doximity in July this year, brings twelve years of experience of communications leadership in startups. In her four years as VP Marketing Communications at electronic health record (EHR) provider Practice Fusion, the company grew to a population of 75m patients and $150m in funding. In her new role she will lead media relations, trend research and marketing. Jeff Tangney, CEO and founder of Doximity, comments: 'Emily is a true health tech communications all-star, and as our network and visibility grow, we're fortunate to add her to our team.'

Alperin, who joined last month, is a former VP, Medicine and Product at Archimedes, and is now tasked with growing Doximity's HIPAA-compliant doctor-to-doctor messaging programs. At Archimedes, acquired by Evidera in December 2013, he led projects including ARCHeS, a technology platform for predicting the outcomes of clinical trials. Previous roles included Director, Medical Informatics at Brown & Toland Medical Group, and Product Manager at Epocrates. He continues to practice today the San Francisco Veteran's Affairs Medical Center.
