Rentrak Receives Further US Patents

November 27 2014

Film and television measurement specialist Rentrak has been granted two new US patents - the first for its Exact Commercial Ratings solution, and the second for a system that compensates for problems with return path TV data storage.

Bill LivekExact Commercial Ratings, which was launched in 2011, provides 'to the second' the rating for each national commercial aired, rather than averaging figures across commercials. The system also measures exactly how many viewers were exposed to specific commercials in a campaign.

Also receiving a patent is a method for storing return path TV data, which allows for the system's inability on some occasions to store all the channel changes before sending them back to Rentrak for processing.

A month ago, Rentrak received a patent for the system it uses to measure the status of set-top boxes (STBs).

Vice Chairman and CEO Bill Livek (pictured) said of the latest grants: 'Once again, the US Patent Office has recognized Rentrak's unique inventions that help it measure TV everywhere.'
