US Census Bureau Opens Nebraska Data Center

November 10 2015

The US Census Bureau has opened a data center in Nebraska, to provide researchers with access to the sensitive data collected by the bureau, the National Center for Health Statistics and other federal agencies.

John AndersonThe new 'Central Plains Research Data Center', based at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), joins twenty other federal statistical research data center (RDC) locations across the United States. These centers partner with universities, non-profit research institutions and government agencies to provide access to US population and economic data. This includes individual responses to census questions, patient-level data for disease epidemic research, and transaction-level commerce data related to imports and exports.

John Anderson (pictured), a UNL Economics Professor and Executive Director of the new center, comments: 'We're very excited about the possibilities for our researchers to extend the frontiers of knowledge in their disciplines with the use of this data. Researchers will be able to access micro-level, individual response-level data in order to do cutting-edge research across a wide range of disciplines from the social and behavioral sciences to broader disciplines as well'.
