French digital media group Webedia has acquired US-based cinema data syndication specialist West World Media. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.West World operates several databases for the entertainment industry, most notably the showtimes platform CinemaSource, which covers 80 countries in 24 languages, and a live-event listing service, EventSource. The company also provides digital marketing services - web sites, mobile apps and social media management - to a number of US cinema circuits, and aggregates nearly a hundred of these circuits through its MovieGoer Network brand, generating a combined traffic of more than six million unique visitors per month.
Webedia says the deal reinforces its presence in the American market, where it currently employs more than 100 professionals in Los Angeles, New York and Ridgefield, CT. The move follows Webedia's April 2015 acquisition of BoxOffice Media, and its October 2015 capital investment in cinema web site MoviePilot.com.
Véronique Morali (pictured), President of Webedia's Board of directors, comments: 'Webedia has already reached leadership positions in the cinema industry in Europe and South America. The US market - currently the second largest cinema audience in the world - is now a priority for us, and this move will allow us to further grow our global presence'.
