CitizenMe Raises Funds for Zero-Party Data Platform

October 26 2021

London-based personal data firm CitizenMe has raised $2m (£1.5m) which it will use to expand its position as a supplier of zero-party data, a term coined by Forrester Research to define 'data that a customer intentionally and proactively shares with a brand'.

StJohn DeakinsCitizenMe helps consumers connect their digital information - for example from social media networks and mobile apps - and promises them personalized insights about themselves using its machine learning technology. The firm's technology allows consumers to choose what data they share with companies, while corporate clients can use the firm's platform to request anonymised data and insights directly from consumers in real time, in exchange for payment. According to the firm, its app will increasingly provide a 360-degree view of people's 'digital selves' and deliver insights into lifestyle choices such as those involving health and finances.

New funding has been led by the North East Venture Fund, supported by the European Regional Development Fund, and managed by Mercia, with participation from 1818 Venture Capital. The investment will also be used to enhance CitizenMe's AI capabilities, and to expand in the US and UK markets.

Company founder StJohn Deakins comments: 'We are more than just consumers; we are digital citizens; and there is a trillion dollar digital economy fuelled by our personal data. CitizenMe enables people and brands to co-create better digital products, services and life outcomes. We are delighted that Mercia and 1818 share our belief in a sustainable digital future and our lead in the new zero data category'.
