Future of TNS UK Automotive

December 2 2004

TNS has moved to reassure clients in the face of rumours that it may be disbanding its UK automotive division, with key personnel relocated within a new structure. The company says that 'the only change is an internal reorganisation'.

TNS says it is 'currently in discussions with the employees affected by these changes [ie the reorganisation], about their future roles'. It is not clear how many UK automotive specialists are likely to leave the company, if any, but the suggestion is that some at least will remain, joining different units.

In a statement issued to DRNO yesterday, TNS stresses that it will continue to fully service UK automotive clients, and suggests that the new structure will improve the service available. The full statement is as follows:

'TNS is aware that there has been some speculation that it is planning to withdraw from the automotive sector in the UK. The automotive market is one of TNS' specialist sectors and the group uses its strong presence in many key markets to offer global services to clients. TNS is the largest provider of market research services to the automotive industry worldwide and will continue to provide research expertise to the UK automotive market.

'TNS continually reviews its operations to ensure that it is servicing clients in the most effective way possible. At the present time, in response to changing market demands, the group is reviewing how it can most effectively service the automotive sector in the UK. There is ongoing discussion with UK employees of the automotive division in order to understand the impact of this review and to agree their roles further to its completion'.

TNS' global network of 250 dedicated automotive researchers provides specialist research solutions in 50 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Areas of TNS Automotive expertise include ad hoc research, advertising and brand research, car clinics and commitment & satisfaction research.

The group web site is at www.tns-global.com - more details about the company's automotive expertise can be seen via the 'Market Sectors' link in the side menu.
