IRI Launches Daily Point-of-Sale Service

Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has announced the US launch of its daily, point-of-sale data on-demand platform MarketKnowledge(tm), promised last autumn. It includes daily data from seven launch retailers: Albertsons, A&P, Brookshire Grocery Company, Giant Eagle, Fred's, Food Lion, and Walgreens.

IRI describes MarketKnowledge as the foundation for its next generation of business insight solutions: one of these, the Retail Performance Management(tm) Solutions Suite, was announced this week. The MarketKnowledge platform leverages a $300 million investment in next generation grid computing architecture and will combine daily retail sales data, sophisticated automated analytics, and enterprise decision support software to address major business issues, such as out-of-stock monitoring, new product distribution, and effective trade promotion compliance.

The company's European division is already successfully piloting a similar program in France with 'a majority of key retailers'.

President and CEO Scott W. Klein says the launch reflects 'a completely new look at how the industry does things today. The industry has become accustomed to looking at sales data historically, because that's been the best we could do. Now, using our new MarketKnowledge Platform and a series of new business solutions, we can take the industry to a whole new level of performance management'.
