UK MR Firms Line Up to Receive Awards

The British Market Research Association (BMRA) has announced the shortlist for its Research Business Effectiveness Awards to be presented in October. Eleven research firms are in the running, including thrice-shortlisted BMRB, plus TNS and Nunwood who were both recent winners at the Marketing Research Awards.

The awards, open to BMRA members, are designed to recognise business innovation, management, quality and customer service. Shortlisted entrants are as follows.

  • People Management - Acritas, BMRB, Brahm.
  • Quality & Service Excellence - BMRB, PH Research, TNS.
  • Innovation - Intrepid, Spring Research, Vision One.
  • Best Agency - BMRB, Flamingo, Nunwood, Synovate.
Judges are Alison Henderson, Chair of the Association of Users of Research Agencies (AURA) and Customer Insight Manager for Transport For London; Janet Miles, Head of Customer Insight at Mitchells and Butler; BMRA Chairman Ivor Stocker; and BMRA Deputy Chairman Richard Sheldrake. The winners will be announced at the MRS Research Excellence & Effectiveness Awards ceremony at The Park Lane Hotel, London, on 25 October 2005.

Commenting on the shortlist, Stocker said: 'Every year we are staggered by the increasingly high standard of entries. Interest in the awards has been very strong this year, and consequently competition is tough. In being shortlisted, these agencies have demonstrated real market research business excellence.'

TNS and Nunwood both won at the recent Marketing Research Awards, organised by Marketing magazine. The awards, which were given for specific projects, were as follows:
  • Financial - Clerical Medical and Intrepid Consultants
  • FMCG - Research International for Allied Domecq
  • Telecoms & IT - Drummond Madell for BT
  • Healthcare and Pharmaceutical - Firefish for GlaxoSmithKline
  • Automotive - Interbrand for McLaren Automotive
  • Media - The HPI Research Group for News International
  • Business & Professional - Boxbreaker Intelligence for CLS Bank
  • Government, Public Services and Social Research - MORI for the Statistics Commission
  • Retail - Simpson Carpenter for Boots
  • Travel, Leisure & Entertainment - Carat for BVHE
  • Best New Product Development Research - Redballoon, Incepta Marketing Intelligence for Nestlé Rowntree
  • Best International Research Project - Nunwood for Visit Scotland.
  • Best Advertising Research - TNS for BT
  • Best Use of Research for Customer Insight - Intrepid Consultants for O2
  • Marketing Award for Outstanding Research - Nunwood Consulting for Visit Scotland.
