New Chair for South African MR Association

The Southern African Marketing Research Association (SAMRA) has elected Schalk Van Vuuren, founder of MSSA Research, as the new Chairman of its Council. Van Vuuren has formerly served as Chairman of the Pretoria SAMRA branch, and Professional Practice Chairman at SAMRA.

SAMRA, which works to maintain professional standards and promote the interests of the MR industry, is managed by a Council of eight elected members. Van Vuuren replaces the previous Chairman Gordon Hooper, who is joint chairman of Bateleur Research Consulting.

Van Vuuren founded MSSA in 1994. The company, which provides syndicated and ad hoc research, has an active affirmative action policy. 40% of its full-time staff and 60% of fieldworkers are from a previously disadvantaged background, and the company supports these staff with loans, bursaries, and financial support.
