BMRB picked up two awards at last night's MRS Research Excellence & Effectiveness Awards ceremony, taking home the BMRA-sponsored Best Agency and Quality & Service Excellence awards. Other double-award winners include Spring Research and Martyn Richards from Opera Research, while Luke Perry from consultancy RSM Robson Rhodes picked up three accolades.

The MRS Silver Medal, awarded to the best paper published in the International Journal of Market Research during 2004, went to Ben Page from MORI for his paper 'How much can we predict?'.

Intrepid Consultants' work for Clerical Medical won the MRS Applications of Research Award for the best demonstration of how research can aid decision-making. The judges said the project led to 'actionable business solutions and had a real effect on the bottom line'.

RBA Research, working for Braintree District Council and Nineveh Consulting, won the MRS Public Policy/Social Research Effectiveness Award for demonstrating how 'a combination of research techniques provides real insight to improve local services'.

The ISBA Award - for showing how research increases understanding of advertising - went to Rainey Kelly Campbell, Roalfe/Y&R, and Duckfoot Research & Development, working on behalf of Virgin Trains. According to the judges, the entry gave a 'fascinating insight' into a new qualitative tool for advertising.

The MRS/AURA Insight Management Effectiveness Award - for the best demonstration of insights that add value to an organisation - was awarded to David Cowan from Forensics. The judges said: 'Every now and then a rare entry pushes all the right buttons…This is one of the best of this rare breed'.

The MRS/ASC Award for Technology Effectiveness was awarded to Bellview Fusion from Pulse Train - a product that provides a hybrid CATI and web survey data collection platform.

The Prosper Riley-Smith Award, sponsored by the Association of Qualitative Research (AQR), went to Bob Cook from Firefish for his 'Sleepless in South London' paper, which 'demonstrated powerfully how good qualitative thinking can lead to a unique perspective on an issue'.

The MRS/BIG Business Research Effectiveness Award went to Adam Blunt from GfK, whose paper gave a 'refreshingly honest' assessment of the value of bulletin boards in a B2B context, and provided an 'important contribution to best practice'.

The Worshipful Company of Marketors Award for the best overall performance in the MRS Diploma case study exam went to Caroline Whytock of Incite Marketing Planning.

The David Winton Award for the best technical paper introducing a new technique, or stretching an existing one, went to Erhard Meier & Corrine Moy from the MRS Census & Geodemographics Group working party on social grade.

The BMRA Awards for Research Business Effectiveness
The award for People Management went to Brahm Research, which was praised for its creation of the University of Brahm, and its focus on developing younger professionals. BMRB won both the Quality and Service Excellence and the Best Agency awards. The judges described the company's continuation of its customer services during its restructure as 'seamless', and were impressed with its positive approach to social responsibilities. The award for Innovation went to Spring Research. The agency's 'extremely effective research' impressed the judges, who also praised the company's 'highly innovative' approach to marketing strategies for luxury cars.
