Call for Contributors to Carbon-Neutral Conference

June 12 2006

The UK's Market Research Society (MRS) has issued a Call for Contributors for its 50th Anniversary Conference in Brighton next year, also announcing that the event will be its first to claim 'carbon neutral' status.

Research 2007, the next 50 years promises to celebrate 'not only the huge achievements that have got the international research industry where it is today, but more importantly, the people and concepts that will pave the way for the next half century.' [We invite loyal readers to submit papers about the past and future role of DRNO / MrWeb - but don't expect them to be accepted!]

Popular formats and ideas from the 2006 Conference will be continued - including interactive debates, expert briefings and sector seminars. Chair of Programme Team Kevin McLean says the event will use a 'very broad canvas... what the future has in store and how research can contribute to the key issues facing business and society across the globe in coming years. We are also looking back over the last 50 years to capture the essential wisdom and insights that can help move us forward.'

The Conference is once again leaving London for the Hilton Brighton Metropole, and will take place between 21 and 23 March 2007.

Apart from celebrating our achievements, key themes for the Conference include:

  • Research and the real world: Does happiness matter and can you measure it? Have climate change researchers won the argument? Can business be more sustainable and what role is there for research?
  • People, organisations and culture: How will the researcher/client relationship work in the future? Training and development - is research a dying art? Work/life balance - myth or necessity?
  • Research techniques and methods: New thinking, experiments and innovation through technology, word of mouth, neuromarketing and social networks; advances in data collection, analysis and reporting; tackling emerging themes of the future.
In line with the theme of looking to a sustainable future, the MRS says the conference will be its first 'carbon neutral event'.

Neil Swan, Co-chair of the Research 2007 Programme Team concludes snappily: 'The dynamic conference sessions coupled with lots of networking, socialising and plenty of sea air make this a must-attend event for anyone whose work involves research. If you attend only one conference in the next 50 years, make it this one.'

Conference synopses or plans should be emailed as a summary in MS Word format (no longer than 600 words), to elaine.merrins@mrs.org.uk - or visit www.mrs.org.uk for more information . Closing date Friday 8 September.
