US-based researcher Abt Associates has announced a global partnership with Outcomes International, an independent consultancy based in Basel, Switzerland.

The two offer expertise in health economics, outcomes research, and registries as well as strategic, clinical, and market research services. Outcomes, founded in 1998, provides research for the life sciences industry in all the major European markets as well as in Eastern Europe, via two business units: Outcomes Research, led by Managing Partner Kurt Banz, and Phase IV Programs, headed by David Schwicker. Abt has a staff of more than 1,000 employee-owners, led by President and CEO Wendell Knox, and was ranked 18th among the AMA / Honomichl top 50 US market research firms with gross revenue of c. $193m for the fiscal year ending March 31 2006.

Abt's SVP of Clinical Research Studies Steven Fosburg says the two have a 'shared vision' based on a high level of technical expertise. 'The Abt/Outcomes team will fully leverage our common expertise and capabilities to successfully complete complex projects in any part of the world, including retrospective or prospective studies, registries, economic models, pricing and reimbursement strategies, and market access support.'

Outcomes' David Schwicker describes the partnership as 'a significant development' for his company, creating opportunities to 'leverage our in-depth knowledge of the European markets with the industry leading experience, know-how and experience of the Abt Associates team.'
