Abt Adds New Role for Research Veteran

February 22 2007

Government and business research consultancy Abt Associates has announced that its Senior VP, Dr Richard A Kulka will now oversee the firm's Survey Methodology and Data Capture Group. His focus will be on strengthening quality, innovation, and flexibility.

Alongside his new responsibilities, Kulka will continue in his role as Senior VP President of Strategic Business Development. He has worked in the research industry for more than 30 years, specialising in a broad range of health and other social policy issues. Prior to joining Massachusetts-based Abt Associates in October 2005, Kulka held a number of senior management posts, including Senior VP for Survey Research at the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), and Executive VP of Social and Statistical Sciences at RTI International. A Fellow of the American Statistical Association and a Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Demographic Studies at Duke University, he has also served on Boards of a number of industry associations.

Kulka explains the move in terms of Abt's company philosophy: 'Survey design and data collection are critical to our clients and to most Abt Associates research, evaluation, analysis, and measurement projects. As such, we want to be on the cutting edge in terms of design and sampling methodology, as well as analysis.'

Abt has a staff of more than 1,000 based in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Bethesda, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; and in Africa, Asia, Central Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The firm is on the web at www.abtassociates.com .
