Intelligence Tool for Mid-size Firms

November 19 2007

Recently acquired business intelligence (BI) provider Business Objects has launched Edge Planning, a planning, budgeting, and forecasting solution specifically for the mid-market.

The tool promises mid-size businesses 'access to sophisticated financial tools that help align expenditures with strategic business goals.'

The product complements others in the Edge range to deliver what the company calls 'comprehensive business intelligence and performance management capabilities for mid-size companies.' Key features include pre-packaged applications for strategic planning and productivity management; visual modeling to illustrate potential effects of business decisions; unified planning, reporting, and analysis for faster and more accurate forecasting; and standard planning methodologies allowing rapid personalization of plans.

Todd Rowe, the firm's VP and General Manager, Worldwide Mid-market Business, says small and mid-size companies 'often rely on their agility and efficient use of resources to drive competitive advantage' and adds that the new product 'delivers industry-leading strategic planning and what-if capabilities that will enable finance organizations to predict change and manage the future with confidence.'

Business Objects, bought last month by software giant SAP (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7413.htm ) has dual headquarters in San Jose, Calif., and Paris, France and is traded on both the NASDAQ and Euronext Paris exchanges. Web site: www.businessobjects.com.
