Verispan Launches Clinic Database

January 9 2008

US pharma data provider Verispan has launched a Retail Clinical Database, providing details of pharmacy retail clinics and the healthcare practitioners associated with them.

The firm claims the database is the only one of its kind, and says it currently provides details about more than 830 clinic locations and parent/satellite relationships, as well as practitioner demographics including the number of practitioners associated with each clinic. The data has been collected by Verispan's Healthcare List Division, which also conducts data cleansing and data verification projects.

Headquartered in Yardley, Pennsylvania, the company employs more than 500 dedicated healthcare information professionals, and is online at www.verispan.com.

Along with with research and information firms IMS Health and Wolters Kluwer Health, Verispan has been battling against the introduction by several states of laws banning the use of physician prescribing information for marketing purposes. Earlier this month, the three were granted a preliminary injunction to block enforcement of the county of Maine's Prescription Restraint Law (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7752.htm ).
