SPSS Upgrades Data Mining 'Workbench'

January 14 2008

Predictive analytics software firm SPSS has unveiled the latest release of its data mining product Clementine, along with associated text mining technology.

Version 12.0 produces automated modelling which combines multiple predictions to help companies solve business issues such as customer churn, campaign effectiveness, customer value, marketing cost, fraud and risk analysis.

With new advanced visualisation capabilities, including enhanced graph interactivity and custom tabular reports, SPSS says the tool now allows organisations to more widely distribute and communicate results to produce 'smarter and more proactive decisions'.

Text Mining for Clementine 12.0 has also been upgraded to extract key concepts, sentiments and relationships in different languages from textual or unstructured data, such as e-mail, blogs, RSS feeds and surveys.

Commenting on the upgrade, Federico Cesconi, Head of Customer Insight and Retention at Swiss cable TV firm Cablecom said: 'Our organisation has been able to better understand and quantify reasons for customer churn through the use of SPSS predictive text mining software. We've uncovered concepts and relationships in text that would be too costly, or even impossible to detect by any other methods.'

The new version is integrated with SPSS Predictive Enterprise Services, which allows organisations to manage analytical results, automate analytical processes and deliver predictions and insight into business processes. It is also integrated with the firm's survey software Dimensions, to make it easier for customers to incorporate attitudinal data into customer analysis. Bob Dutcher, VP Product Marketing, sums up: 'With the new version, our customers can extract even deeper insight from data and text, delivering greater return on all of their data assets.'

In addition, the firm says that the updated system links more easily into external software applications such as IBM DB2 Warehouse 9.5 for in-database mining and BusinessObjects' XI platform (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7660.htm ).

Founded in 1968, SPSS is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois and is online at www.spss.com.
