Cagney Lifts CEO from Tree

May 20 2008

London-based marcoms group Cagney has named Steve Mattey CEO, following the departure of Paul Simons who resigned from the firm last week to 'focus on growing interests elsewhere'.

Steve MatteyMattey is currently a Director of consumer behaviour consultancy Tree, which he co-founded with Matthew Bayfield in 2001 and sold to Cagney in January 2007.

Before founding Tree, Mattey worked for HSBC Bank for eight years, where he focused on using data to deliver more efficient marketing campaigns to the bank's customers. Prior to this, he worked for several large agencies including WPP network Wunderman Cato Johnson where he headed the data planning unit.

In his new role, Mattey says he aims to develop a group of businesses which are 'innovative in the communications services they offer' and will 'challenge the mainstream communication industry by attracting high profile business'.

Cagney Chairman Alex Hambro commented: 'With Steve's wide range of experience in marketing services; in running his own successful business; and in successfully integrating Tree into the Cagney group, he was the obvious choice as Chief Executive.'

Web sites are at www.cagneyplc.com and www.treelondon.co.uk .

Last November, Tree launched a new venture called AGL ('a good listener'), focusing on analysis of user-generated web content.
