New Panel and Motivation Tool for ODC

September 17 2008

It's a good week for panel launches in Belgium. Yesterday Lightspeed, now European online data collection firm ODC has announced one, as well as launching a new tool to keep panellists motivated.

The new 'Panellist Motivation Score' tool has been designed to keep participants willing and avoid what the firm calls 'panel mortality'.

'When panel members repeatedly do not belong to the required target group of a survey, this negatively affects their willingness to participate and their behaviour in later surveys,' explained Christoph Bender, Director Panel Management. 'The reduced willingness to participate makes target groups harder to reach.'

To counter this issue, ODC calculates each panel member's motivation to take part in surveys, using an algorithm which takes several variables into account - including the number of invitations received, the answer status and the level of bonus points accrued. This model establishes the frustration tolerance of the panellists and considers this when future invitations are sent. For example, panellists with a low motivation index could be invited to surveys with a high likelihood of completion, to prevent their frustration level from increasing further.

In addition, ODC has added a new panel in Belgium to its Opinion People panel community. In January the firm, which now offers access to around 400,000 panellists in nine European countries, launched panels in Austria, Poland and the Netherlands.

ODC is headquartered in Munich, Germany, and has additional offices in London.

Lightspeed Research's new Belgian panel will enable respondents to conduct surveys in either Flemish or French.
