Samepoint Tracks US Election Chat

September 24 2008

Search engine Samepoint.com has launched a real-time scoreboard that keeps track of the online comment count on Democrat candidate Barack Obama vs Republican candidate John McCain.

Samepoint.com tracks millions of conversations taking place across hundreds of thousands of blogs and social media sites. These conversations are being continuously monitored for mentions of Obama and running mate Joe Biden, alongside McCain and VP nominee Sarah Palin.

Comment scores for each candidate are dynamically updated, with the combined scores based on actual comment count, and not on sentiment of the comments.

Through the firm's election sub-site, it is possible to browse the comments, with each one logged by 'point-under-discussion' and by 'most commented'.

As well as political blogs, the firm monitors micro-blogs such as Twitter, social news sites such as Digg, video sites like YouTube, and discussion boards from Yahoo!

'We're living in an age of user-generated influence, where anyone can have a voice,' commented Chief Conversations Officer Richard Krueger. 'If these voices, aggregated across the most popular online communities, could provide us with a social media barometer, maybe we'll know which way the wind will blow during this extremely close election.'

Results are updated at www.samepoint.com/election.html .
