New Chairman for MRUC as Merger Moves Forward

September 21 2011

India's Media Research Users Council (MRUC) has elected Hormusji N Cama, Director of Gujarati daily paper Bombay Samachar, as its new Chairman. He replaces Lloyd Mathias.

Mathias himself was elected in July last year after Andrey Purushottam had to cut short his term following his resignation from Mahindra & Mahindra. The board also endured the premature departure of its CEO at the turn of the year.

Cama, whose election at the body's AGM yesterday in Mumbai was unanimous, had held the role of Vice Chairman since March and has been on the Board since September 2007. The Vice Chairman's role is now filled by Arvind Sharma, CEO, Leo Burnett India, also elected yesterday, while Colors CEO Raj Nayak takes over the board seat vacated by G. Krishnan.

The AGM also formally approved the merger of the country's two key print readership surveys, the IRS and NRS. The deal now goes to the Board of India's Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) for final approval.

Cama, who is currently on the Board of Directors of Press Trust of India and is a former President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), said the merger was one of two priorities for his term, the other being Outdoor Survey developments.

The organisation is online at www.mruc.net .
