Keynote Growth Continues

Internet and mobile cloud monitoring specialist Keynote Systems has announced revenue up 33% to $33.1m for its first fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2011.

Founded in 1995 and based in San Mateo, California, the company provides testing, monitoring and measurement products and services for clients including online portals, e-commerce and B2B sites, mobile operators and infrastructure providers. In November, it announced that it had passed $100m in annual revenue, with a 19% rise to $103.0m in fiscal 2011.

The latest figures include results from the $90m acquisition of DeviceAnywhere, which provides testing and monitoring of mobile web sites and apps, and which contributed $4.1m in the quarter, in line with expectations.

Total costs and expenses for the quarter leapt to $27.6m from $21.2m, mostly due to due to $5.7m of expenses associated with the acquisition. Operating income was $5.4m, up from $3.7m while net income rose from $3.6m to $4.1m or $0.22 per diluted share. Non-GAAP net income for the quarter of 2012 was $6.0 million, or $0.32 per diluted share, up from $5.1m ($0.32) a year previously; and adjusted EBITDA was up from $6.1m to $7.4m.

Chairman and CEO Umang Gupta comments: 'We delivered strong first quarter results across all our businesses reflecting growth supported by positive seasonality. Secular trends, including growth in ecommerce and cloud computing, continue to drive activity in our Internet business, which yielded record revenue.'

Keynote says it expects total revenue between $29.0m and $31.0m in the second quarter, with Non-GAAP net income per diluted share between $0.12 and $0.18.
