IRI Buys Retail Scan Business Aztec from Aegis

September 4 2013

Retail data giant Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has acquired Aegis-owned retail information and scan-data business Aztec for an undisclosed sum.

Andrew AppelAztec provides market measurement, customer insight analytics, shopper insights and CRM services for CPG, liquor and pharmaceutical manufacturers and retailers in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden and the UK. The company was founded in 1995, and acquired by Aegis in 2005.

IRI says the deal will provide Aztec clients with access to its analytics, consumer and shopper marketing, and consulting solutions, along with its non-scan consumer panel data, while IRI clients will gain expanded coverage in certain geographies.

IRI President and CEO Andrew Appel (pictured) comments: 'This partnership immediately delivers value through an expanded presence; complementing IRI's existing capabilities in the eight countries it currently serves. Combining our complementary strengths with Aztec's, furthers IRI's position as a market leader by offering enhanced data, combined with superior advanced analytics, consumer and shopper marketing, and consulting.'
