Sizmek Buys Mobile Ad Firm StrikeAd

May 15 2015

New York-based digital ad management company Sizmek is to acquire mobile advertising firm StrikeAd, for $11.7m including $9.5m in cash.

Alex Rahaman, CEO of StrikeAdThe remainder will be paid via a $2.2m note, according to the announcement in Sizmek's first-quarter 2015 earnings report. The buy should be finalized by the end of May. Alex Rahaman, CEO of StrikeAd (pictured) said there would be no interruption in the company's service to clients, who will also gain access to Sizmek's ad management platform.

Last year, Sizmek launched a tool providing an integrated view of campaign performance measurement, pulling in data from comScore's vCE and Nielsen's Online Campaign Ratings. The company places a strong emphasis on viewability, winning Media Rating Council (MRC) accreditation for its 'viewable impression' verification metric a year ago.

On its blog Sizmek said the StrikeAd acquisition, which follows the buying of mobile tracking and retargeting specialist Aerify Media last August for $6.25m, is another step towards providing 'a true mobile end-to-end solution for marketers and agencies... incorporating Building Ads, Managing & Activating Data, Targeting Ads, Buying Media, Managing Campaigns and Evaluating Performance.' The blog says buying StrikeAd 'significantly bolsters Sizmek's Buying Media solution for Mobile and rounds out its end-to-end offering.'

StrikeAd, which itself raised $7m in a funding round in 2013, will now be integrated into Sizmek's MDX solution via its DSP Connect program, although marketers using MDX will still have the option to use other DSPs alongside or in place of StrikeAd.
