Datascension Grows Revenues, Cuts Loss

May 15 2008

US data collection firm Datascension has reported revenue growth of 12.5% to $5.35m for the quarter ended March 31, 2008. Operating income for the quarter was $140,500, compared with an operating loss of $136,900 for the same period in 2007, helped by cost-cutting measures.

The net loss for the quarter was just under $67,000, compared with a net loss of c.$310,600 in Q1 2007, a decrease of 78.5% which the firm puts down to increased business generated in the latter part of 2007, from both existing and new clients.

Operating cost controls initiated in January are now improving gross margins. The company says it is continuing to increase efficiencies, streamline operations, and optimize economies of scale.

Datascension's COO Joey Harmon, stated: 'The quality of our service and recruiting efforts to hire individuals that can speak both English and Spanish is enabling us to enlarge the scope of services we offer our existing clients as the Hispanic population continues to grow in the Americas.'

Last summer, the firm relocated much of its activity to lower cost sites outside the US in an effort to make net annual savings of approximately $100,000 per year.

Datascension was founded in 2000 and is now public with 500 employees in three countries. Its CATI telephone facility employs more than 400 full and part-time interviewers, many of whom are bilingual in Spanish and English. Web site: www.datascension.com .
