SAY Media Buys ReadWriteWeb

December 15 2011

Social media communities specialist SAY Media has acquired news and analysis blog ReadWriteWeb, which covers technology trends around the world. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Richard MacManusUsing SAY Media's platform, advertisers are able to measure the brand impact of their campaigns through feedback from 'engagers' about recall, favourability and intent to purchase. Its platform is used by its portfolio of independent content creators to build communities around key consumer interest areas such as style, living, food and technology.

In February, the firm introduced the SAY 10 group of influential 'online voices' recruited to create content, drive conversations and shape opinion; then last week it launched Off the Grid to help brands reach those US consumers who have stopped watching live TV.

Matt Sanchez, CEO of SAY Media says that the latest acquisition will further strengthen his firm's technology channel. ReadWriteWeb was founded in 2003 by Richard MacManus (pictured) and offers analysis about each day's Internet industry news. It reaches more than 75 million global 'tech savvy' readers each month with topics ranging from the future of machine learning to the aggregation of data analysis.

As part of the deal, MacManus will continue to lead the company, with contributors including the founder of tech analysis and commentary site SplatF Dan Frommer, who will serve as Editor-at-Large.

MacManus comments: 'With SAY's technology and services, we'll be able to expand our editorial scope into relevant areas of interest and redesign the site to create a more premium experience for both our readers and advertisers.'
